The connected human being – in the Internet of Bio-Nano Things

The Internet of Things has long been part of everyday life: fitness wristbands, smart heating systems, connected factories. But what if this connectivity technology were to enter our bodies?

Researchers are currently developing the Internet of Bio-Nano Things – tiny bio- and nanotechnological devices that communicate within the body. They are designed to detect diseases at an early stage, release drugs in a targeted manner and revolutionise therapies. The basis for this is molecular communication, i.e. the transmission of information by means of molecules – just as our cells and organs have always done. A fascinating vision – with big questions:

  • How far has research progressed – what is still needed for actual implementation?
  • What are the risks and ethical boundaries – from hacker attacks to data protection?
  • Who is responsible when technology fails – how should society deal with this?

At the Zukunftsplausch, experts from the fields of communication technology, biotechnology, ethics and law discuss with you a digital future that affects us all.
